Luxury South African Holidays
South Africa has been described as the world in one nation and in the nine provinces of South Africa you will find a wide diversity of landscape, culture and tradition. South Africa is located at the southern tip of the continent of Africa and home to over 46 million people. People are diverse in origin, cultures, language and beliefs and many have migrated there from other parts of Africa and Northern Europe, in particular the UK and Holland.
It is at the southern tip of Africa where two of the world’s great oceans meet, warm weather lasts for most of the year and in many cases big game roams just beyond the city lights.
Fossil and other remains tell us that there is a strong possibility that humanity began in South Africa with fossilised footprints over 80,000 years ago. South Africa also includes some of the world’s oldest rock paintings. Today South Africa is the powerhouse of Africa, the most advanced broad based economy on the continent, with an infrastructure to match any world-class country. It is a simple fact that two thirds of Africa’s electricity is generated in South Africa, 40% of the phones are in South Africa, 20% of the world’s gold is mined in South Africa and you will be surprised how far the pound in your pocket will stretch and what it will buy in South Africa.
Since 1994 and the end of apartheid South Africa has developed into a socially responsible democracy comprising of all races and often referred to as The Rainbow Nation. Large in size, approximately one eighth of the size of the USA and the size of several quite large European countries, it is fortunate that the infrastructure, including tarred roads, a good network of internal flights and some spectacular rail journeys enable the visitor to travel around with ease. As you would expect with a modern country there is good telephonic communication, a good mobile phone network, a modern banking system, all of which contribute to making any visit to South Africa an easy and enjoyable experience.
Most people go South Africa, amongst other things, to see wild animals and this is easily achievable either within the national parks, of which South Africa’s Kruger Park, opened more than a century ago, was the world’s first wildlife conservation area. Today it is part of a single broadband conservation area that spans private and public game parks and stretches across the national borders into neighbouring Mozambique and Zimbabwe, and the park itself is larger than the country of Wales.
Amongst other reasons to visit South Africa are the golden beaches, some of the world’s best surf, spectacular scenery ranging from mountains to deserts, eco-systems found nowhere else in the world and an opportunity to experience Africa, one of the best holiday destinations you will find. The saying goes that once you have seen the sun set in Africa you will always return.
